There’s nowhere better Zan Zi Bar
We are not only cheapskates, but we are also gluttons for punishment, so to get to Paje we once again headed to the dala dala rank. We were pointed to the correct vehicle and hopped in. The only other people there were a Belgian couple who had been royally ripped off for their fare, and charged double the going rate. We were wise to this by now and paid the correct price, before being told that our bags also counted as ‘people’ and we had to pay for them too. After some negotiation, we paid a reduced price but were slightly frustrated. The amazing thing is, the conductor will happily charge us the going rate for tickets, infront of the other couple who he has just taken 100% more off – no shame!
We then did a tour of Stone Town while the driver picked up some cargo, which was also loaded onto the bus. A front door, some very long strips of wood, some drums of cooking oil, his food shopping, it all joined us. Eventually we left the town and started to head towards the coast.
We arrived at our accommodation and a taxu pulled up behind us. It was full of a group who had been on the Tazara train with us. A 3 day long, eventful journey is a pretty good shared experience so we have been hanging out with them since.
Our accommodation is AMAZING. The rooms are in grass huts and have sand floors. The bar plays great music, has delicious food and some very nice drinks. From the bar, you just hop over the wall and you are on the beach. The beach is lined with palm trees, is miles of white sand and beautiful calm turquiose water. It is a kite surfing paradise.
We are going to spend the next couple of weeks here in Paje. So far we have been getting up early in the morning to go for a run, followed by a swim in the sea. We then return to our accommodation for a delicious breakfast of fresh fruits and pancakes, before heading back to the beach for the rest of the day. Paradise!
Wow! No beaches in Laos, so make the most of it…. 🙂
