What we’re taking

I’m attempting to travel extremely light, and only taking a 33 L backpack.

I started writing a complete kit list, but it made for some tedious reading. So instead you should look at this excellent website.

Most of the clothing and kit were recommended there. The specialist stuff is listed below:

• A 33L Osprey Talon backpack. Terrifyingly, while searching for this link, I just realised that this is in the ‘daypack’ section!

• A travel towel. This one comes highly recommended.

• A Caxton FX cash card

• A sleeping bag liner. I bought a New Zealand silk one from ebay.

• Mosquito net – better safe than sorry

• Kindle – to keep us occupied on 23 hour bus journeys

• A sterile first aid kit, plus some extra bits

• Mini business cards with our website on. These are from moo.com.

• A Dell XPS13 ultrabook, to blog on the go

This spoon. I’m not sure why I decided that one spoon between two of us would be enough to eat whole meals, but its super lightweight and I wanted it!

I also had a lot of vaccinations. I said ‘yes’ to pretty much everything, even though they were incredibly expensive. I tend to worry about things, and thought it was better to pay for the rabies vaccine than to panic every time a dog came near. In all, I reckon the vaccines cost around £500, but I have been immunised against cholera, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, meningitis ACWY, tetanus, diphtheria, typhoid, polio, TB, hep A and hep B. I also have a lot of malaria medication.
