Its the End of the World As We Know It
When we arrived in Lima, there was a major mix up with the hostel and they didn’t have enough beds for us. We had paid in advance and it was going to be tricky for us to find anything near by at the last minute so we insisted that the hostel staff fixed the problem for us. They were suitably embarassed and offered to make some pisco sours while we waited. Lima was positively topical in comparison to Cuzco and Puno, so we put dresses on and sat outside in the courtyard. Eventually they found beds for us (presumably some other people were kicked out) and after a bit of presuasion they even changed the bed sheets.
As it was Caths final night in Peru, we went to a fancy restaurant recommended by Kristofina and Mathias. It was amazing, and we were even brave enough to tick off the final item on our list of top ten foods to eat in Peru – the beef heart skewers. I can report that they were delicious.
Very early the next morning, Cath went to the airport and Lou, Diane and I spent two days exploring Lima. We followed a Lonely Planet walking tour around the old town, and also decided to take a trip to the beach.
On the final evening we went to see the Magic Water Circuit, which is a park full of spectacular fountains. They are all lit up and some are set to music. We were then given a rather interesting lift home, but thankfully made it in one piece.
There was only time to pack and have a few hours of sleep before starting the 24 hour journey home. 54 weeks of adventures had come to an end and it was time for me to go back to England.
