I did it….
…And I’d like to thank the internet, google, wikipedia, tea breaks and chocolate….Hahaha
It took me a while, but I finally got around to graduating! Three years of experiments, four different work sites, one crushed finger, lots of new friends, six painful months of writing and a 250 page thesis were complete.
I only returned to the country a couple of weeks before the big day and had completely forgotten to book a gown. With two days to go I started calling around the hire shops and discovered I was too late. Ooops! Luckily a friend had one I could borrow and the day was saved. Phew.
On the day it selff Mum, Dad, Cameron and I went to Darwin college for a drinks reception in the garden followed by a delicious lunch. We took lots of photos in the sunshine, although thanks to Cambridges strict dress policy Dad informed me that I either looked like a sumo wrestler or a nun. Thanks…
I was then taken away with all of the other graduates to rehearse for the ceremony. The entire graduation is conducted in Latin, and involves holding someones finger before kneeling to receive your degree.
Once we had been fully instructed, we formed a small procession and walked through town to the Senate House. The graduands stand throughtout the ceremony but everything happened very quickly and we were back outside within 20 minutes. Dad and Cameron remained composed throughout the ceremony until Long Dond was called up to collect her degree. From then on all I could see was their shoulders shaking out of the corner of my eye!
