Brisbane
I have been in Brisbane for a few weeks now, where I am living with my cousin Laura, her husband Carl and their dog Kenny.
After six months on the road, and too many dorm rooms to count, it is so nice to be settled in one place and to be with family again.
I currently have a waitressing job here. Although it isn’t mentally taxing, it is physically quite demanding and I walk in circles for several miles every day! I also joined the gym in the shopping centre so at least I’m getting fit while I’m here. Australian gyms are full of beautiful people, which offers a nice distraction from the monotony of the treadmill! I also go to loads of the classes – I’m loving pilates, and even enjoying the dance workouts although I’m not always coordinated enough for them! The gym is rather different to any I have been to at home. They have a DJ every night and the classes have full disco lights and thumping music.
I only get two days off a week, and it often seems to be stormy on those days… but when the weather allows I love to go to the beach in the middle of the city. Its man-made so there is no chance of being stung by a jellyfish or eaten by a shark!
Jimmy, my old housemate from Cambridge, is back in Brisbane for Christmas so hopefully we can become partners in crime (or at least in adventure!). We met up the other day and explored the city a bit before heading up Mount Cootha in a thunderstorm, to get a spectacular view of the city at night. I bought a great new camera, but I can’t really work it yet so the photos leave a bit to be desired!
Jimmy and I also joined his friend Erin and gatecrashed her friends 21st! We had a great night on the Gold Coast.
